As a holistic nutritionist, I empower clients to take control of their health and improve all aspects of their wellbeing. Holistic simply means looking at the body as a whole by considering all the different aspects that influence it, including diet, lifestyle, mental and social factors as they are all interconnected. The body thrives on a holistic lifestyle for optimal health. Chemical (diets, nutrients, deficiencies, toxins), structural (movement, posture) and emotional aspects are all equally important. When you improve the terrain of your body by targeting all areas of health, you will be more resilient to all the things that modern life sends our way, such as infections, emotional stress, toxins. How Holistic Nutritionists Can Support You

Chronic diseases and mental health issues are on the rise, and often they are often connected to our diet, emotional health, and lifestyles. A recent research article by Furman et al, discusses how chronic inflammation causes disease over time, and highlights how holistic nutritionists can support a person’s health over their lifespan. This figure from the study shows on the left the most common triggers of low grade systemic chronic inflammation (SCI), such as poor sleep and disrupted circadian rhythm, diet, obesity, lack of movement, exposure to toxins (e.g. body care products/make-up, household cleaning products, EMFs, air pollutants, mycotoxins, industrial chemicals and tobacco smoking), stress, social isolation, infections and gut dysbiosis. Shown on the right, are the health consequences of SCI including type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), cardiovascular disease, cancer, depression, autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, sarcopenia, metabolic syndrome, and osteoporosis.

By conducting thorough assessments and considering factors such as food sensitivities, gut microbiome health, and lifestyle habits, I develop personalized nutrition protocols to alleviate symptoms and restore digestive balance. I emphasize the importance of gut health in overall wellness and guide clients towards optimizing their digestive function. For example, a client with acid reflux, developed IBS after contracting Norovirus, and had urgent bowel movements for 2 years before coming to see me. Finding the right probiotic reversed their IBS and a specific diet plan eliminated the acid reflux they had suffered with for over 40 years! Optimizing their gut microbiome and developing an individualized diet plan for this client was life altering. It can be very impactful what you can achieve with diet and lifestyle changes and a few key supplements.

Improve Mood and Energy by Eating Right

Nutritionists recognize the strong connection between nutrition and mental well-being, as well as chronic fatigue. Digestive issues are not just about the gut, indigestion, acid reflux, abdominal pain and bowel movements. Although these are important to address and optimize, there is also a strong relationship between nutrition and mental health that is mediated by the gut–brain axis, a bidirectional communication network between the central nervous system (which is comprised of the brain and spinal cord), the enteric nervous system of the gut, and our gut microbes. The gut–brain axis also intersects with branches of the endocrine and immune systems. So, it makes sense that what we eat, that get digested in our gut, can have substantial affects on the brain, our hormones, and our immune systems. By analyzing dietary patterns and considering potential nutrient deficiencies, I create comprehensive nutrition plans that prioritize brain health and energy optimization and enable clients to take control of their mental and physical vitality.

Autoimmune Diseases

Autoimmune diseases are complex conditions that require a multifaceted approach. There are many triggers, or a combination of triggers, and nutrition and digestive health are key factors in modulating these disorders. I have completed extensive training with the Kharrazian Institute on Autoimmune Disease and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, and can help clients to discover their triggers. With my guidance, we navigate dietary modifications, implement targeted supplementation, and make lifestyle adjustments to reduce symptoms and overall inflammation.
